Meet Your Teacher

  • Anthony Ball Breathwork Bali

    Anthony Ball

On my journey of self-discovery, I found Breathwork and meditation as the practice that helped me find balance and grounding. I specialize in embodiment, coming out of the thinking mind, and connecting with intuition and the emotional body. Using embodiment practices including shamanic, breathwork, and Osho, I offer the space to reconnect to the body and soul. I have spent many years in the world of health, wellness, and coaching, creating successful travel, adventure, and hotel businesses in the UK & Bali. Using breathwork and other powerful techniques I have seen huge shifts within my students and am dedicated to guiding others to discover peace within, and have the confidence, clarity, and motivation to achieve their calling in life.

  • Breathwork, or controlled breathing exercises, has been associated with various physical, mental, and emotional benefits. Different breathwork techniques may have slightly different effects, but here are some common benefits reported by practitioners:

Stress Reduction: Controlled breathing can activate the body's relaxation response, reducing stress and promoting a sense of calm. Techniques such as diaphragmatic breathing and deep breathing help activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which counteracts the stress response.

Improved Mental Clarity: Focused and intentional breathing can help clear the mind, increase concentration, and enhance cognitive function. It can also be a useful tool for managing racing thoughts and promoting mindfulness.

Enhanced Emotional Well-being: Breathwork is often linked to improved mood and emotional well-being. It may help regulate emotions, reduce anxiety, and alleviate symptoms of depression. Techniques like conscious breathing and alternate nostril breathing are believed to have a positive impact on emotional balance.

Better Sleep: Practicing relaxation techniques involving breathwork before bedtime may help improve the quality of sleep. Slow, rhythmic breathing can signal to the body that it's time to relax and prepare for rest.

Increased Energy Levels: Certain breathwork practices, such as the Wim Hof Method, claim to increase energy levels by optimizing oxygen intake and improving the efficiency of oxygen utilization in the body.

Enhanced Physical Performance: Athletes often use breathwork to optimize their performance. Techniques like rhythmic breathing and breath control can help improve endurance, increase oxygen uptake, and manage fatigue during physical activity.

Improved Respiratory Function: Regular breathwork can strengthen respiratory muscles, enhance lung capacity, and promote overall respiratory health. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with respiratory conditions like asthma.

Mind-Body Connection: Breathwork is often seen as a bridge between the mind and body. The awareness of breath and its connection to physical and mental states can promote a greater sense of self-awareness and mindfulness.

Immune System Support: Some forms of breathwork claim to stimulate the immune system. While more research is needed in this area, certain practices may have indirect benefits on immune function through stress reduction and improved overall well-being.

Pain Management: Breathwork techniques may be used as part of pain management strategies. Focused breathing can help individuals cope with pain by promoting relaxation and reducing tension.

It's important to note that individual experiences with breathwork may vary, and the effectiveness of specific techniques can depend on factors such as personal preference, health conditions, and consistency of practice.

  • Breath-holding, or breath retention, can be a component of certain breathwork practices and has been associated with various physiological and mental benefits. Here are some potential benefits of incorporating breath-holding into your routine:

Improved Lung Capacity: Breath-holding exercises can enhance lung capacity by challenging the respiratory muscles and expanding the lungs to their full capacity. This can contribute to better overall respiratory function.

Increased Oxygen Efficiency: Training the body to tolerate brief periods of breath-holding may improve oxygen efficiency. This can be particularly relevant in situations where oxygen availability is limited, such as during certain physical activities or at high altitudes.

Enhanced Relaxation Response: Controlled breath-holding can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting a relaxation response. This can help reduce stress, anxiety, and induce a state of calm.

Improved Cardiovascular Health: Breath-holding exercises may stimulate the cardiovascular system by influencing heart rate and blood pressure. These exercises can enhance cardiovascular efficiency and contribute to better heart health.

Increased Mental Focus: Practicing breath-holding requires concentration and mental focus. This can help train the mind to stay present and focused, potentially improving overall attention and cognitive function.

Mind-Body Connection: Breath-holding exercises can deepen the connection between the mind and body. Awareness of breath and the ability to control it consciously can foster a greater sense of mindfulness and self-awareness.

Stress Tolerance: By voluntarily inducing a mild stressor through breath-holding, individuals may develop a greater tolerance for stress in other areas of life. This is related to the concept of hormesis, where exposure to a mild stressor can lead to increased resilience.

Enhanced Breath Control: Breath-holding can be a component of breath control training. Practicing different breath-holding patterns can help individuals develop better control over their breathing, which can be beneficial in various situations, such as public speaking or managing anxiety.

Increased Energy Levels: Some practitioners of breath-holding exercises, such as those inspired by the Wim Hof Method, claim that it can increase energy levels and alertness. However, more research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms behind these claims.

Improved Endurance: Breath-holding exercises can be incorporated into training regimens for athletes, helping to improve breath control and endurance. This may be particularly beneficial for activities that involve breath regulation, such as swimming or certain types of yoga.
